The pain and agony of his death must have paled in comparison to the daily struggle he endured, looking for a job only to be denied hundreds of times. Nobody wanted to hire a person whose work experience consists of arranging toxic assets which, combined with other financial disasters, ultimately took down the U.S. economy. I’ll never have closure or understand why he couldn’t reach out to one of us. We had no idea our close friend was suffering and hurting to the point where death seemed like the only escape. So many Miami alumni were at his funeral, looking at each other saying the same thing: I would have done anything for him. Didn’t he know that?

“The combination of hip-hop and the Internet, and the ability to record it and put it up online immediately and bypass all these typical media outlets and typical industry outlets is what makes it so powerful,” explained Syrian-American rapper Omar Offendum over the phone from Los Angeles in an interview with New America Media.

These aren’t “beta” tablets. They’re bad tablets. It’s that simple. It’s true that their hardware seems closer to iPad-caliber than their software, but improving software is the hardest part of making products like these. By the time RIM releases “a serious software update or three” the entire market will have changed. He said to me, ‘Do I think George Bush did the right thing for the country by invading Iraq? No. But am I happy about it? Absofuckinglutely.’ He hoped we would invade more countries because it was good for business.”

Packouz was baffled, stoned and way out of his league. “It was surreal,” he recalls. “Here I was dealing with matters of international security, and I was half-baked. I didn’t know anything about the situation in that part of the world. But I was a central player in the Afghan war — and if our delivery didn’t make it to Kabul, the entire strategy of building up the Afghanistan army was going to fail. It was totally killing my buzz. There were all these shadowy forces, and I didn’t know what their motives were. But I had to get my shit together and put my best arms-dealer face on.”
